The Kentucky Bach Choir is seeking singers who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, to compete for a cash prize and for an opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Kentucky Bach Choir in a subsequent performance.
For the preliminary audition, applicants are required to submit unedited recordings of themselves singing two Bach arias and one Haydn or Mozart aria. Arias are to be sung in the language in which they were written. Audio recordings may be submitted in either .mp3 (minimum 192 kbps bitrate) or .cda format. Applicants must provide proof of their status as an actively enrolled student pursuing a vocal performance degree. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a current voice teacher. Applicants will also submit a $25 application fee. Application postmark deadline is March 9, 2012.
Ten (10) finalists will be selected from the submitted recordings to come to Lexington and sing before an audience and a panel of judges in a live competition on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 174 N. Mill St., Lexington, KY 40507. The ten finalists will be notified no later than Monday, March 26, 2012.
The winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000 and an opportunity to perform as featured soloist in the Kentucky Bach Choir's 2011-2012 season. Two additional encouragement prizes of $500 each may be awarded at the discretion of the judges.

Since its founding in 2007, the Kentucky Bach Choir has, through its performances in Lexington and Central Kentucky, continued to grow and develop in its mission to further the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and other master composers of like stature. The chorus has provided professional performing opportunities for Central Kentucky-based singers and instrumentalists.
